Eliot Lipp, a versatile producer with a career spanning nearly 20 years, has made a name for himself in the music industry. Initially known for his dusty instrumental hip-hop productions, Lipp has explored various styles including electro-funk, disco, and techno. His eccentric productions on albums such as “The Outside” and “Shark Wolf Rabbit Snake” have garnered him a dedicated fan base in connected yet distinct audiences. Lipp’s last solo full-length effort, “Skywave,” was released in 2017 on Young Heavy Souls, showcasing his talent and versatility as a producer.
Throughout the following five years, Lipp continued to highlight his versatility through collaborations and side projects. As one half of Minutes Unlimited, a group formed with fellow electronic producer Michna, Lipp displayed his talent for creating precise, shiny techno/trap soundscapes. In another collaboration called Lipphead, alongside underground hip-hop and downtempo producer Blockhead, he explored a loose and experimental approach to dance music. These contrasting projects highlighted Lipp’s ability to switch between different styles and moods with ease.
His forthcoming full-length LP, “Encounters,” strikes a balance between these two sounds. With laid-back downtempo cuts like “Know By Now” and “The Lowdown,” as well as choppy upbeat hip-hop instrumentals like “Guitar Maniacs,” Lipp condenses years of growth and influence into this expansive double LP. The sequencing of the album draws from Lipp’s DJing experience, creating a seamless and cohesive listening experience from start to finish.
