Embarking from her Iranian-American roots in Michigan to her present life in New York’s Hudson Valley, artist Rahill‘s music journey is as diverse as it is captivating. Rising to prominence as a founding member of the Brooklyn rock band, Habibi, Rahill is known for converting a hodgepodge of influences into soulful pop songs that subtly reflect the aura of her Iranian/American upbringing.
Her recent project, the highly personal ‘Flowers At Your Feet’, set to launch in 2023 on the Big Dada label, marks a significant step in her career. The album, comprising 14 tracks, is testament to Rahill‘s distinctive approach to lyrics, marked by reverence and thoughtfulness. Notably, Rahill ventures through her journey of self-love and acceptance, resonating deeply with the audience’s universal quest for self-understanding. Collaborating on the album’s tracks with the likes of Beck and Jasper Marsalis, Rahill explores a composite sonorous landscape, dipping into the various flavors of trip-hop, jazz, and alt-rock.
Rahill’s creative prowess extends beyond the world of music. Her notable artistic contributions include a recently exhibited collection of unique crayon portraits and collaborations in the realm of fashion. Moreover, her talents as a DJ keep her active, with regular live performances and monthly curation for radio selections. It is, indeed, her idiosyncratic aesthetic sense that has landed her some notable collaborations in fashion, including a live music performance for Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s New York Fashion Week show.
The track named ‘I Smile for E,’ the first single from ‘Flowers At Your Feet,’ pays tribute to familial bonds and the annals of memory. It’s a soulful testament to the challenges of loss and the enduring power of love, featuring audio clips from her late aunt, Elaheh. The track artfully navigates the painful landscape of loss, offering a soothing reminder that love transcends the physical realm and that those who have passed away continue to live in our hearts.
Rahill’s noted fellow label mates at Big Dada include Yaya Bey and LYZZA, artists with whom she curates a unique vibe at the label. With its 2021 relaunch, Big Dada primarily focuses on the works of Black, POC & Minority Ethnic artists. The unveiling of ‘Flowers At Your Feet’ further cements Rahill‘s spot at the label, and a celebratory release show is set for 12th May in Brooklyn, NY. This intimate event at Union Pool will surely cap off Rahill‘s successful promotional rollout, drawing both her devoted fanbase and the freshly intrigued into the realm of her touching musical narrative.
‘Flower At Your Feet,’ it seems, presents a fitting homage to Rahill‘s life-long journey of self-discovery and acceptance, offering her fans an insight into the compelling dynamics of her world. But more than that, it signifies a critical milestone in her personal growth, captured beautifully in the echoes of her unique sound.
