Manchester-based artist Samrai is set to release a new album entitled “Work & Roti” on June 30th via his new label Sangha Industries. The eight-track album features a range of collaborators, including SCAPA, Vindya, Shanique Marie, Gavsborg, and his own mother, whose maiden name inspired the imprint’s title. The project has been described as being grounded by the inclusion of South Asian percussion and rhythms.

Samrai, also known as Balraj Samrai, was a co-founder of Swing Ting, a club label, party, and production duo that gained recognition for their unique sound and style. However, after thirteen years in the business, Swing Ting came to an end in early 2022. Prior to the establishment of his new label, Samrai co-founded a Manchester-focused music publication SEEN along with journalist Kamila Rymajdo and Tunde Adekoya, the artistic director of Big People Music.

“Work & Roti” album was announced on June 8th and led with the release of “Oil Money” featuring LINTD and Raheel Khan, which was released in May. Along with the news of the album, this week Samrai has also released a pair of new singles “Create Your Own Bless” featuring Fox and “Dirty Dirty” with Thai-Chi Rosè.

Samrai’s music incorporates a blend of different sounds, which creates a unique listening experience. His fusion of South Asian and Western beats has made him a notable artist in the music industry. He draws his inspiration from various sources and references including existing artists like NTS’s Anz, who he cites as a significant influence on his work.

Samrai’s release of “Work & Roti” is set to establish Sangha Industries as a diverse label that aims to encourage inclusivity and diversity in the music industry. He believes that collaborations with artists with various backgrounds and styles can create an opportunity for bringing different cultures together, which can result in growth and richness in the music.

Samrai’s upcoming album “Work & Roti” is a must-have addition to one’s playlist, with its unique blend of different sounds and its aim to promote inclusivity and diversity. Being an artist who has worked with and been influenced by various other musicians, Samrai’s music is a reflection of the richness and diversity of the music industry, making him a remarkable artist that is worth watching out for.
