Tomorrow Comes The Harvest is a visionary musical project that brings together talented musicians from different traditions to explore the depths and possibilities of music as an art form. Conceived by the late Afro Beat creator Tony Allen and Detroit Techno Pioneer Jeff Mills, along with veteran keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary, this concept was brought to life internationally until Tony Allen’s untimely passing in 2020. Now, Jeff Mills continues the journey as a trio, joined by tabla virtuoso Prabhu Edouard. Together, they push the boundaries of music, transcending through intersecting sounds and rhythm in mesmerizing improvisational movements.
The Tomorrow Comes The Harvest project originated from a desire to create purely spontaneous performances, without any pre-planning or preparation. Inspired by the same musical understanding, Tony Allen and Jeff Mills aimed to explore the unknown in their collaborations. Jean-Phi Dary, who had worked closely with Tony Allen, naturally became part of this unit. Following Tony’s passing, the project took on a broader perspective, inviting other musicians to participate in certain concerts, enhancing its musical diversity. Prabhu Edouard, already experienced in collaborating with Jeff Mills for classical concerts in France, was invited to join the ensemble.
Recorded live at Bozar in Brussels, Belgium in 2022, Tomorrow Comes The Harvest captures the essence of their captivating performances. With Jean-Phi Dary on keyboards/synthesizers, Prabhu Edouard on tabla/voice, and Jeff Mills on drums/percussions/synthesizers, the album showcases the immense talent and collaborative spirit of these musicians. The blend of their individual backgrounds and musical expertise creates an awe-inspiring fusion of sounds and rhythms that transcend traditional boundaries, making Tomorrow Comes The Harvest a truly remarkable musical experience.
