Brighton’s feminist electro-punk trio, CLT DRP, is releasing their second album titled ‘Nothing Clever, Just Feelings’. Riding high on their recent support act for the electronic music legend Gary Numan in Antwerp, the band has also unveiled a music video for their new single, ‘I See My Body Through You’. This track, available on streaming services since 16th August, is a precursor to the album’s release on 8th September 2023 through Venn Records.
Highlighting their growing prominence, CLT DRP’s previous tracks have garnered attention on prominent radio platforms with recognition from industry stalwarts such as Iggy Pop and Steve Lamacq. Further expanding their horizons, the band has performed at renowned festivals like The Great Escape and 2000 Trees.
To mark their album release, the band is set to perform at Brighton’s Green Door Store on 8th September. This comes as part of their announced UK headline tour, which will span various cities, confirming their burgeoning reputation in the UK and European festival circuit.
The single ‘I See My Body Through You’, as described by the vocalist Annie Dorrett, encapsulates the emotions of public scrutiny and objectification. Its accompanying video, directed by Alice Strutt, uses abstract imagery to express the dichotomy between self-perception and external views. This sentiment resonated with Strutt, whose vision for the video aligned with the song’s core theme, resulting in a hauntingly captivating visual narrative.
The album, ‘Nothing Clever, Just Feelings’, was birthed at Shaken Oak Studios in Oxford and was produced by Alex Gordon, known for his work with acts like The Cure. Reflecting on the recording experience, the band recounts a sense of camaraderie and immersion in their creative process, heightened by the serene ambiance of the studio’s rural setting.
Characterized by its edgy blend of electronic and noise-driven music, the album fuses various genres to birth a distinct sound. It delves deep into themes of identity, queerness, and emotional vulnerability, presenting a bold testament to CLT DRP’s artistic evolution.
