Benedikt Frey’s newest offering, “Fastlane,” debuted on the reputable ESP Institute label, capturing listeners with a palpable sense of velocity and thrill. The auditory narrative is akin to the exhilaration of commandeering a potent vehicle, with the powerful hum of the engine and the allure of endless roads unfurling before you.

Before his relocation to Berlin, Frey stumbled upon timeless records from artists like SEM, NUTE, and DJ VOODOO, which inspired him. Around this time, he procured a 909 from a friend, which birthed the first jam, ‘Gasoline’, setting the stage for his evolving sound. A move to Berlin was imminent.

Berlin offered eclectic experiences: witnessing Aquarion’s Drum and Bass performance at Berghain and other impactful performances. But the moment of euphoria was short-lived. The monotonous beats of a subsequent DJ deflated the vibrancy of the night. Inspired yet disillusioned, Frey experimented till 2018. A double EP was ready and the collaboration with ESP-Institute seemed set for a 2019 release. But global events led to its postponement. A chance discovery of Sherelle’s electrifying Boiler Room set rekindled Frey’s love for genre-blending dance music.

The UK’s dynamic music scene prompted Frey to revisit his early clubbing days marked by Drum & Bass rhythms. This period witnessed his dabbling in innovative compositions, leading to tracks like ‘Solver’, ‘Move Me’ with Nadia D’Alò, ‘Silverblade’ with O-Wells, and ‘Industry’. These newer tracks seamlessly integrated with his prior creations, culminating in the album.
