Factory Benelux is set to unveil a limited edition orange vinyl of Retrofit, the seventh studio album by post-punk pioneers, Section 25. This 2010 release is making its vinyl debut, and only 500 copies will be available for fans.
Created before the tragic passing of founding member Lawrence Cassidy in February 2010, Retrofit offers a unique blend of Section 25’s classics from the ’80s, rejuvenated for the modern age using a combination of past and contemporary technology. The collection comprises a fresh take on favorite tracks, inspired by their revitalized live performances. This modern approach astoundingly aligns the band with today’s sound, defying conventional expectations and setting them apart from the typical 80s underground ambiance.
The Quietus praises the album, noting its brilliant use of technology that seemingly elevates the band above the familiar fragments of the 80s scene. Record Collector admires its audacity and innovation, while the Glasgow Herald describes it as neither a best-of nor a remix album. Instead, it’s a retrospective reimagining where tracks are transformed into shining technosculptures possessing a deeply human essence.
Retrofit’s vinyl debut, designated as FBN 140, will be a coveted item, with only 500 orange vinyl copies available. Moreover, the digital version comes with an additional treat — five bonus tracks, one of which is an explosive rendition of “Looking From A Hilltop” by Stephen Morris, renowned for his association with Joy Division and New Order. With this release, Factory Benelux not only brings the spirit of Section 25 to a new generation but also celebrates their lasting impact on the post-punk genre.
