Pip Blom has graced us today with ‘Get Back’, the latest single from the anticipated third album, ‘Bobbie’, set to release next month. This new track trails behind significant collaborations with Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand on ‘This Is Love?’ and Dutch indie sensation, Personal Trainer on ‘Kiss Me By The Candlelight’.

Commenting on the new single, Pip mentions: “One standout element of this album for me is the vocal sound. My voice transitions seamlessly from a warm and intimate touch to a fierce and punchy tone. During the recording of ‘Get Back’, we found humor in the challenge of repeating the phrase multiple times. While the song showcases rock influences, the production gives it a polished feel. A recurring theme in ‘Bobbie’ is the use of autotune on vocals, evident in this song’s bridge. While ‘Get Back’ stands as one of the album’s more boisterous tracks, producer Claudius elevated its intensity and volume, especially in the final chorus.”

About ‘Bobbie’

For ‘Bobbie’, Pip Blom decided on a fresh start. After establishing herself as a significant voice in indie rock through two albums and relentless touring, the latest album introduces listeners to a captivating blend of energetic synth-pop.

Drawing inspiration from the cult English pop band, Micachu and the Shapes, from the 2010s, Blom initiated the album with a distinct approach. Previously, she started her songwriting process with the guitar, with hopes of fulfilling her pop aspirations during the studio recordings. However, time constraints led to more guitar-centric outputs. With ‘Bobbie’, the synthesisers and computers were integrated from the outset. She engaged Dave McCracken in a co-writing and production capacity to ensure this vision was impeccably executed.

Blom immersed herself in this innovative workflow with a series of intensive five-day studio sessions in the Netherlands. The developed tracks were then shared with McCracken, known for his work with Jay-Z and Kanye West, to fine-tune them into the punchy pop hits they’ve become.

Key collaborators on this album include Blom’s partner, Willem Smit, from the Dutch indie band Personal Trainer, and Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand. The lyrical depth of ‘Bobbie’ showcases a progression in Blom’s songwriting, with themes encapsulated in ‘guide books’ which were then transformed into songs with McCracken’s assistance.

Despite the impressive evolution evident in this third album, ‘Bobbie’ is just a chapter in Pip Blom’s musical narrative. As the album concludes with the words, “I wanna start again,” it’s evident that this is just the beginning of a thrilling new journey for the artist, with much more to come.
