“The Trip” began as an exploration of leaving Earth behind and venturing into the vast unknown of outer space. Now, 23 years later, Jeff Mills propels us into a new chapter of the project, where we confront the awe-inspiring phenomenon of the Black Hole. A celestial entity shrouded in mystery, the Black Hole’s gravitational pull is so intense that not even light can escape its grasp. Yet, through Mills’s visionary approach, we are invited to envision five theoretical scenarios of what may await us on the other side.
Adding a captivating dimension to the performance is the provocative vocalist and artist Jun Togawa. Renowned for her groundbreaking contributions to Japanese new wave music, Togawa’s emotive songs and commanding stage presence transcend generations. Collaborating with Mills, Togawa lends her unique vocals to two original compositions: “Contradiction” and “Hole.” Through seamless remote recording sessions spanning Japan and the US, Togawa’s vocals intertwine with Mills’s rhythmic compositions, creating a fusion of sonic exploration and emotional depth.
