Melbourne’s vibrant garage-psych ensemble Beans has unveiled their eagerly anticipated third studio album, “Boots N Cats,” to the world. Available on vinyl, CD, and merch bundles through various platforms including the Fuzz Cub store, Rough Trade, Sound Merch (AUS), and independent retailers, this album marks the first of two releases slated for this year.
Led by Beans’ frontman, Matt Blach (also known as The Murlocs’ drummer), “Boots N Cats” places percussion at the forefront, delivering a refreshing twist to their signature sound. Blach’s vision for the album centers on rhythm, infusing each track with a sunny kaleidoscope of chugging guitars, driving bass-lines, soaring organs, and warm, echo-soaked vocals. The album is anchored by tightly-wound rhythms and infectious grooves that captivate from start to finish.
Blach shares his inspiration behind the album, stating, “I’ve always wanted to make a drum-based album, dedicated around the beat first and then everything else follows.” Embracing diverse production approaches, from hip-hop to crunched drums, “Boots N Cats” pays homage to musical influences ranging from The Meters, Wu-Tang, and James Brown, while retaining the acid-soaked essence of 60s/70s rock that defines Beans’ distinctive style.
With “Boots N Cats,” Beans invites listeners on a sonic journey that seamlessly merges past and present, offering a dynamic fusion of genres that is both timeless and innovative.
