When a classic track is given a fresh spin, the result can be polarizing. However, when Mixtress and Pete Cannon joined forces to reinterpret The Streets’ iconic 2004 track, ‘Blinded By The Lights’, the outcome was nothing short of electric. Enter ‘Blinded By The Lights 23’, a track that turbocharges Mike Skinner’s poetic lyricism into a blistering 160 beats per minute rendition, complete with swift breaks and artfully sliced vocals. And intriguingly, the entire rework was crafted on an old-school sampler.

Debuted in September via RCA/Locked On, the track, which had been hinting at a release since 2022, took the streaming world by storm, racking up a staggering 100,000 streams within its initial 72 hours.

While the rework takes listeners on a thrilling musical joyride, it’s the behind-the-scenes camaraderie between Mixtress and Cannon that adds another layer of charm. As Mixtress reminisced, “This track was birthed amidst dig sessions through Pete’s vinyl collection, laid-back conversations, and snack breaks courtesy of the nearby shop.” She further describes the track as “a whimsical, high-octane rendition of a timeless gem, evoking a sweet sense of nostalgia among both seasoned and newer fans.”

Accompanying the track is a music video, filmed at Harringay Snooker Club in North London, with directorial credits going to ROYAL EYES.

Pete Cannon, ahead of the track’s official drop, couldn’t contain his excitement: “This Friday, our Streets re-work is out on RCA! The same label that’s been home to legends like Bowie, Whitney, Britney, and Asap Ferg, thanks to Locked On. Crafting a hardcore track on an antiquated sampler and having it released by a major label? That’s a win.”

This isn’t the first collaborative venture between Mixtress and Pete Cannon. The dynamic duo has showcased their synergy through a series of mixes, including their stint on BBC Radio 1 Dance and a back-to-back set at Boomtown Festival.

As ‘Blinded By The Lights 23’ continues to captivate audiences, it’s clear that Mixtress and Pete Cannon have hit upon a unique formula: paying homage to the past while crafting beats for the future.
