Coming this October 20th, legendary experimental sound artist and prominent Coil-collaborator, CoH, announces his avant-garde album of minimal electronics titled, “Radiant Faults”.

Ivan Pavlov, renowned by his alias CoH, describes “Radiant Faults” not as mere compositions but as “the recording of a dialogue”. Intriguingly produced using the Silhouette Eins, a rare synthesizer, Pavlov’s immersive experience with this instrument spanned an extended nocturnal session. This unveiled a seamless blend of textures, patterns, and subliminal melodies. At a transformative juncture, Pavlov perceived an unseen presence, sensing a conversation with the machine: “It felt as if an ethereal entity communicated through the gears, continuously deviating from my intentions, creating what felt like ‘responses’. This brought me back to ELpH.”

ELpH, as termed by Coil, represents an enigmatic force believed to emerge from electronic devices at unpredictable instants, unpredictably altering the creative trajectory. Famously coined during a series of 1994 studio mishaps, ELpH emerged as a phenomenon infused with an almost divine intelligence, creating its own legend. As an integral part of Coil’s inner sphere, Pavlov’s deep understanding of ELpH’s philosophy and its transformative influence equips him to discern his own ELpH moment. “Radiant Faults” is a mesmerizing testimony to this ideology, standing at the intersection of musical creation and mystic manifestation, underlining the “divine essence of anomalies.”

What makes the Silhouette Eins stand apart is its amalgamation of the vintage “optical soundtrack” concept of the 1920s with a contemporary hardware interface connected to Pure Data – an interactive musical visual programming medium that synthesizes sound via live video signals. This unique combination led to Pavlov’s intent being met with cryptic counter-responses from an esoteric dimension. The audio spectrum showcases raw waveforms juxtaposed against basic rhythmic beats, faint pulses echoing in desolate avenues, and radiant high-pitched tones shimmering amidst digital anomalies, all resonating with covert energies and evoking an aura of enigma.

In Pavlov’s eloquent words, the work transcends mere creation: “Errors, as we see them, might be concealed messages. Occasionally, akin to the faint glimmer piercing through a crack or a tear, an unforeseen luminosity emerges.”
