Peruvian-born artist Eve Matin, known for her commitment to deep listening and her innovative harp compositions, has consistently viewed life through a prism of spirituality and unified belief. Her unique background, growing up with Persian parents within the Baháʼí faith, is deeply rooted in her musical ethos and narrative. The underlying connection she portrays in her music reflects the unity and transformative power embedded in her religion.

In 2025, Matin embarked on a sonorous journey with her debut EP, “TRANSMUTANCIA.” This body of work reveals the intricate process of music genesis. It captures the essence of music as it evolves from a nebulous thought, more like an act in progress, into a tangible form. The entire composition was conceived in a live, hour-long improvisational performance at Morphine Raum in Berlin, further accentuating its raw, luminous essence.

Matin’s TRANSMUTANCIA explores the abstract idea of creation, presenting a sensory interpretation of the emergence of new life into the world. It comprises powerful beginnings, symbolizing the moment when a sound seed is planted in the ground and something indescribable starts to germinate. Similar to artists Luis Alberto Spinetta and Charly García, her music rolls as a concoction of unrefined elements, interspersed with concepts of dream weaving and reality distortion.

What does the formation of grace sound like? How many particles must unite to create it? The EP encapsulates this enigma in a profound manner. It portrays that not every convergence is as sonically pleasing, and not every tone is as receptive to the ear. Each snippet of her music houses a ritualistic essence, exhibiting the fine line where practice evolves into an exploratory play and the surrounding aura seems to echo with the sound wave’s pulse.

In TRANSMUTANCIA, Matin intentionally leaves the work open-ended rather than embodying a finalized form. The listener is left with an auditory resonance that echoes with the first strains of dawn, resonating till the darkness takes over. This composer’s debut work, much like the music of Charly García and Gustavo Cerati, is a fresh exploration of the transformative journey of sound and its raw vitality.
