Gilles Peterson, the celebrated French radio host whose blend of soul, funk, Latin fusion, Brazilian music, jazz, and more has captivated a global audience. Born Gilles Jérôme Moehrle in 1964, Peterson has developed an unfettered passion for defying genres, with jazz at its nucleus. His dynamic musical taste developed during his upbringing in South London, a region immersed in a potpourri of music.
The rising star began his DJ career in London pirate station Radio Invicta’s back rooms and has since graced several highly regarded platforms. However, Peterson wasn’t just a DJ; he played a pivotal role in London’s jazz scene as evidenced by his track record with 102.2 Jazz FM, Kiss FM, and BBC Radio 1. His ever-evolving journey in radio broadcast saw him showcasing an array of music genres, enabling his audience to discern the connections between them.
