Neon Indian musician Alan Palomo is set to release his first solo album under his birth name. Titled “World of Hassle,” the album is set to drop on September 15 via Mom+Pop. The album features a collaboration with Mac DeMarco called “Nudista Mundial ’89” as well as the new single “Stay-at-Home DJ,” which Palomo and his brother wrote back in 2019.
In a statement, Palomo said that “Stay-at-Home DJ” signaled a change in direction he had been looking for. When things slowed down during the pandemic, he dusted it off and the song turned into the album. Originally conceived as a Neon Indian record, Palomo instead decided to let go of his initial album concept and the name Neon Indian.
The last Neon Indian album was 2015’s “Vega Intl. Night School.” In 2019, Palomo returned with “Toyota Man,” which Pitchfork named one of the best songs of that year.
The album is an exciting progression for Palomo, whose music has always had a unique and creative edge. The tracklisting for “World of Hassle” includes 13 songs, each with its own unique vibe and sound. From the haunting “The Return of Mickey Milan” to the funky “Club People,” Palomo delivers a captivating and interesting album.
The album’s art director, Robert Beatty, created a visual for “Stay-at-Home DJ.” The visual perfectly captures the vibe of the song and the album as a whole.
Overall, “World of Hassle” is a must-listen for fans of Palomo’s work, as well as those who appreciate creative and original music. It’s exciting to see Palomo branching out and exploring new sounds and styles, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
