The artistry and ingenuity of Lomond Campbell are once again showcased in his new EP, ‘Interference Patterns’, released by One Little Independent. The EP is a compilation of alternate versions and remixes from his critically acclaimed ‘Under This Hunger Moon We Fell’.
The creation of this record is deeply intertwined with the principles of quantum mechanics. Campbell explains, “The title and artwork of this record allude to the double-slit science experiment, a quantum mechanics phenomenon that suggests the possibility of single particles existing in two places simultaneously.”
Available for streaming on Bandcamp, where a limited edition cassette version is also accessible, the EP offers a unique insight into Campbell’s creative process. He explains, “’Under This Hunger Moon We Fell’ was predominantly a studio creation. Consequently, performing the tracks live necessitated a complete reenvisioning. The alternate versions had a distinct vibe, leading to the decision to record them in one take and document the sessions visually to capture the live essence.”
This dedication to capturing the live energy of the tracks can also be witnessed in a live session at the Electronic Sound studio, where Campbell performs with his Unsung Machine, a beautifully crafted instrument made of wood and brass. Ultimately, ‘Interference Patterns’ represents a marriage of four live tracks with four interconnected tracks initially considered for ‘Under This Hunger Moon We Fell’, offering a fascinating glimpse into the artist’s evolution and creative thought process.
