Swiss-French pianist and composer, Marie Krüttli, began her love affair with the piano when she was just six. Her foundation in classical music evolved into a passion for jazz, leading her to earn a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano from the University of Lausanne and later, a Master’s in Jazz Performance in Lucerne, Switzerland. After soaking in the vibrant music scene of New York, Krüttli chose Berlin as her creative base.

Her myriad influences include musical and visual artists ranging from FKA Twigs and Björk to Monet and Basquiat. Krüttli’s music exemplifies her eclectic taste, as she deftly navigates between electronic music and traditional piano performances.

Her most recent offering, the ‘Vif’ EP, stands as testament to her evolving sonic explorations. The EP channels Dragon Life, her electronic duo with drummer Fabian Rösch, offering an introspective dive into themes of love, life, and personal struggles. The soundscapes are rich and atmospheric, echoing her vision of songs being akin to colorful, cinematic paintings.

On her EP, ‘Vif’, she shared that it’s more direct and urban in feel as compared to her previous album ‘Transparence’, which drew more from nature. She emphasized the importance of taking risks and staying out of one’s comfort zone to deliver something fresh to listeners.

When asked about her venture into electronic music, Krüttli revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited her concert performances, was the catalyst. Having been exposed to a diverse range of music genres, she often lets her intuition guide her, resulting in a harmonious blend of genres in her creations.

Discussing the role of social media in an artist’s career, Krüttli sees it as a double-edged sword. While it provides an accessible promotional tool, it can inadvertently influence the creative process. For her, art must remain free from such constraints, emphasizing that the pressure to fit into predefined boxes is detrimental to art’s diversity and authenticity.

Tackling the challenges faced by female artists, Krüttli acknowledged that stereotypes often lead to women being taken less seriously. She advocates for openness and kindness towards all minorities in the music scene, emphasizing that every artist deserves respect for their talent and accomplishments.

Looking forward, Marie Krüttli has a lot in store for her fans in 2023, including new music and performances. With her passion for authentic creation and her rich, multifaceted musical background, she’s set to keep making waves in the music world.
