Tangerine Dream: A Legacy of Innovation and a Journey Through North America

One of the foundational pillars of electronic music, Tangerine Dream, has announced a sweeping tour across North America this coming fall. Their profound influence on the emergence of genres such as EDM and their pioneering work in film soundtracks make this a tour not to be missed.
Boasting over 60 film credits, the iconic group has crafted soundtracks for notable films such as “Risky Business”, “Firestarter”, and “Vision Quest”. Their work even expanded into the gaming realm, with their contribution to the “Grand Theft Auto V” soundtrack—a game that astonishingly sold over 175 million units, ranking as the third most successful video game ever.
The journey of Tangerine Dream began in 1967, spearheaded by Edgar Froese. Their musical style, characterized by extended instrumental tracks dominated by synthesizers and sequencers, became synonymous with the “Berlin School” and “Kosmische Musik” movements. The 1974 album ‘Phaedra’, which clinched gold in the UK and marked their maiden voyage with Virgin Records, is seen as a touchstone in electronic music history.
Throughout the past five decades, Tangerine Dream has been a force of nature in the music industry. With over 100 studio albums to their name, seven Grammy nominations, and their indelible mark on more than 60 films, their legacy is unassailable.
Following the unfortunate passing of Edgar Froese in 2015, the ensemble now comprises Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane, and Paul Frick. The albums ‘Quantum Gate’ and ‘Raum’ are a continuation of Froese’s creative vision, built upon his musical sketches and inspirations.
