n 2022, Tess Parks released her second solo album, “And Those Who Were Seen Dancing,” following her collaborative works with Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Today, the London-based singer-songwriter announces her follow-up album, “Pomegranate,” along with the release of the breezy lead single, “Koalas.” This new album is co-mixed by Ruari Meehan and Mikko Gordon, known for their work with The Smile, Gaz Coombes, and Arcade Fire.
“Pomegranate” was born out of a challenging period for Parks. In November 2020, while Ruari was in London and Tess was in Toronto, Ruari sent her the music for “Koalas.” At that time, Parks was struggling with severe PTSD and found it difficult to engage with the song until early February. When she finally did, she recognized it as one of her most cherished pieces of music, describing it as the most beautiful she had ever heard.
This exchange of music between Ruari and Tess became the foundation of “Pomegranate.” Their daily correspondence, where Ruari would send music and Tess would add lyrics, was a vital lifeline for her during a tumultuous time. This process of collaboration and mutual inspiration was instrumental in the creation of the album, particularly the song “Koalas.”
The track “Koalas” features whistling from Molly Lewis and is accompanied by a music video directed by Benjamin Wearing. This song and its creative process highlight the deep emotional and artistic connections that fueled the making of “Pomegranate,” promising an album that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
