“Any-Angled Light” stands as a testament to the fusion of genres, where instrumental music meets the spirit of the natural world. This suite seamlessly binds bass, guitar, piano, tenor saxophone, electronic synthesis, and authentic field recordings. With each track, there’s an effortless blend of structured melodies and ambient soundscapes, traditional songwriting and experimental sound-collage.
The uniqueness of this collection is the amalgamation of genres invoked while ensuring a cohesive thread runs throughout. With motifs and sounds sprinkled across the album, it’s more than just music – it’s an experience, a sonic dialogue with nature.
The birth of this project is as intriguing as its sound. Musicians and visual artists across Montreal, Toronto, and rural Ontario embarked on a journey of collaboration that spanned over two years. Their creative process was truly conversational, exchanging audio sketches, drawings, photographs, text, and even videos, a collaboration that blossomed in the winter of 2020.
One of the brilliant minds behind “Any-Angled Light” is Jennifer Dorner. Residing in Montreal, she dons multiple hats – a pianist, a visual artist, a local political puppet show presenter, and even an art museum director. Through art, she confronts the challenges of the world, whether it’s with her evocative piano pieces or her involvement in local politics.
