Bonny Light Horseman returns with their third album, “Keep Me on Your Mind / See You Free,” a celebration of the beautifully chaotic essence of human life. This album, crafted over five months in 2023, showcases the band’s unique approach to folk rock.
The creative process for this album began when the core trio—Anais Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson, and Josh Kaufman—gathered in an Irish pub. Joined by collaborators JT Bates on drums, Cameron Ralston on bass, and recording engineer Bella Blasko, they transformed the pub into a makeshift studio, channeling their melancholic vision into a rich, expansive sound.
“Keep Me on Your Mind / See You Free” weaves together influences from the neofolk stylings of Bob Dylan, the inclusive vocal approach of Massive Attack, and the structural experimentation of The Microphones. This fusion creates a record that is both meandering and cohesive, embodying a sense of grace amidst imperfection.
