In 2025, the music sphere buzzed with the release of Carrier’s inaugural piece de resistance, “Rhythm Immortal”. The album emitted an air of debonair sophistication, containing eight intriguingly complex compositions, the masterwork of Guy Brewer. This prowess augmented by occasional collaborations with Voice Actor & Memotone, these joint efforts added a tang of mystique to the album’s sonic landscape. Brewer’s previous experiences, spanning the performance-intensive Commix era to the individualistic Shifted phase, culminated in this Carrier project where recalled elements of D&B, dub techno, electro-acoustic music, and trip hop seeped into the album’s groundwork.
This comprehensive body of work became Brewer’s new playground after intriguing the audiophiles with his FELT and Carrier label releases in 2023. Though those tunes synced perfectly with the dance enthusiasts, his new venture, armed with meticulously hewn percussion elements and simmering ambient reverberations, offered a mesmerizingly distinctive rhythmic experience. The polished hypnotic musicality of “Rhythm Immortal” proved to be the breath of fresh air in a somewhat stagnated music scene, making it highly sought after by listeners who were beginning to lose hope in discovering innovative musical arrangements.
The album immersed its fans in a deeply personal musical experience. It was akin to being lost in an undulating sea of tension, intercut with moments of calm – a homage to Brewer’s respect for the music style he loved. His reverent tribute to Photek’s ‘Ni-Ten-Ichi-Ryu’, Kode9’s Prince rework, T++/Dynamo and Traktor’s avant-garde musical dynamics, and homage to the raw brilliance of Burial’s debut—were beautifully reframed in the album. The aura of mystery and anticipation was captured perfectly in this auditory soiree, which served as a testament to Brewer’s unquestioning belief in the power of subtlety and imagination in music.
“Rhythm Immortal” was an ode to the unpredictable melodies, an invitation to luxuriate in Brewer’s meticulous digital soundscapes. The tonally rich album ranged from Voice Actor’s compelling vocals to Memotone’s ethereal hues on the track ‘Offshore,’ the album unveiled various sonic layers. Carrier’s brilliance steered the album, guiding the listener through a musical journey poised perfectly for motion or relaxation, like the dreamy sway in ‘A Point Most Crucial.’ The brilliant precision in the albums’ execution made it unmissable.
Amidst the sequence of impressive releases, Modern Love, an independent electronic music label, had the honor to launch this integral album of Brewer’s musical career. Born in 2002 from the foundation of an erstwhile music store Pelicanneck, which eventually morphed into the music retail giant Boomkat, Modern Love has always been a watering hole for music enthusiasts. Following the footsteps of successful artists such as Andy Stott, Miles Whittaker, and his band, Demdike Stare, Brewer with his Carrier persona laid a new marker. The 2025 album ‘Rhythm Immortal’ turned out to be a notable milestone not just in Brewer’s journey but also the Modern Love’s music trajectory as well.
