cumgirl8 (also known as cg8) is a New York City four-piece band that has recently released their debut EP on the prestigious label 4AD. Comprising Lida Fox on bass, Veronika Vilim and Avishag Rodrigues on guitar, and Chase Lombardo on drums, this talented collective creates a genre-defying sound that draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists including ESG, Cocteau Twins, Suicide, CSS, B-52s, The Shangri-Las, Chris & Cosey, Madonna, and many others. With their EP titled “phantasea pharm,” cumgirl8 presents a captivating musical experience that transcends boundaries.
The origins of phantasea pharm trace back to a peculiar fascination with Ella Fitzgerald’s rendition of “Old McDonald” before a performance in Charlottesville, Virginia. Embracing this peculiar inspiration, Vilim donned a cow leotard adorned with pig accessories, Lombardo sported a g-string and an apron humorously reading ‘The Grillfather,’ Rodrigues transformed into a lawnmower, and Fox embraced the role of a seductive rooster. This playfulness on stage led to the band introducing themselves as a ‘Fantasy Farm.’ It was this moment that sparked the creative vision for their EP.
Following their standalone single ‘dumb bitch’ in 2022, phantasea pharm builds upon the success of cumgirl8’s previous EPs, namely c*mgirl8 (2020) and RIPc*mgirl8 (2021). With their intriguing blend of influences and innovative approach, cumgirl8 is carving their own path in the music industry, earning recognition and accolades along the way.
