Ocela, the second installment in a planned trilogy, is not just a dance album but an album about dancing. It sees dance as a form of pathmaking, a physical chronology of a journey. The album revolves around the character Ocela, an invented feminine form of the word steel, who embodies both strength and brittleness. While the previous album focused on Ocela’s inception and youth, this album portrays her maturity and her resolute trajectory between birth and passing away. It is an album built around beats, with each song on the album traveling at its own varying velocity, creating harmonious yet slightly elliptic patterns. Ocela was recorded live onto a 4-track, using only hardware such as Elektron Octatrack MK1, Elektron Digitone, and Jomox Mbase01.
Daniel Kordik, also known as Iskra, is the mastermind behind Ocela. He is one half of the two-piece project Jamka and a member of the Urbsounds Collective. As a co-founder of Earshots Recordings and having released Ocela on the melodramatic label Weltschmerzen, Kordik’s contribution to the electronic music scene is highly regarded. Ocela showcases Kordik’s return to melodical composition, infusing his unique style with beats and rhythms. Those who appreciate artists like Jamka and the Urbsounds Collective will find Ocela to be a captivating and immersive musical experience.
