The collaboration between Fikir Amlak, Akashic Records, and Crucial Rob has resulted in the highly anticipated “Black Sun” LP, set for release on June 28th. This project began when Crucial Rob’s mixes stood out among over 200 entries in the “Serious Time” remix challenge in 2020, leading to an ongoing creative partnership.
Following the successful remix contest, the trio’s next significant release was the single “Middle Pillar,” which gained traction as a 7″ polyvinyl on Green King Cuts. Building on this momentum, they embarked on an ambitious journey to produce a full-length album centered around the theme of Alchemy. This concept ultimately blossomed into a comprehensive 15-track collection.
The “Black Sun” LP features the first 10 tracks pressed onto vinyl, while the digital version available on Bandcamp includes five additional tracks. Among these exclusive digital tracks are “Dreadstone,” “Truth Seeker,” and a mesmerizing acoustic rendition of “Black Sun,” along with their corresponding dub versions. This expansion offers listeners a deeper dive into the intricate and mystical soundscapes crafted by these artists.
