In 2012, Section 25 introduced Dark Light, an impactful album that marked their first venture since the sorrowful passing of founder Larry Cassidy in 2010. This collection took a nostalgic turn, echoing the polished electro and synth-pop nuances they first showcased in their pivotal 1984 record, From the Hip. This atmospheric resonance was augmented by the participation of co-vocalists Beth and Jo Cassidy and complemented by an evocative cover design by esteemed artist/designer Peter Saville.
The majority of Dark Light came to fruition in collaboration with renowned remixer Derek Miller, who goes by the moniker Outernationale. The album refreshed versions of tracks like Colour Movement Sex & Violence and Inner Drive. Another significant track, My Outrage, was also released as a distinguished single for Record Store Day.
Praising Section 25’s reinvention, The Guardian, in 2014, acknowledged the transformative journey of the band, which once exuded a moody post-punk aura. Their 1984 electronic venture, From the Hip, not only previewed the rise of house music but also made significant waves in the New York club circuit. Tragically, with the losses of both Larry and Jenny Cassidy, their legacy found new life as their daughter, Bethany Cassidy, took the reins. This blend of the band’s foundational rhythms with the ethereal vocals from Bethany and Jo elevated their newer tracks to illustrious club-pop heights.
This celebrated album, Dark Light, now graces vinyl for the very first time under the label FBN 145. It’s an exclusive release, with only 500 copies pressed on pristine crystal clear vinyl. For digital enthusiasts, the version comes enriched with several bonus tracks, making it an irresistible addition for fans and collectors alike.
