Description

Renowned South Asian artist, Sijya, catapulted her career in 2025 with her ground-breaking EP, ‘Leather & Brass’. Crafting a sonic symphony with unrefined textures and poignant emotion, she sets to bring a slice of her universe to listeners via One Little Independent Records. Infusing electronic progressions and raw anarchy, this EP marks a significant milestone that best encapsulates Sijya’s deliberate shift in her sound palette.

Turning musical conventions upside down, ‘Leather & Brass’ is a stellar symbol of ingenuity and personal transformation, superbly engineered with a concoction of digital synthesis and analogue rawness. Distorted rhythmic oscillations weaved through unconventional guitar manipulations, juxtaposed with expressive lyrics swathed in enigma, explore contrasts and intensities both in resonance and in feeling. During its orchestration, expert musicologists Matthew Herbert from Accidental Records, and Hugh Jones (aka Crewdson), played an instrumental role.

Making waves in the current South Asian music scene, Sijya represents an influx of innovative concepts and remarkable musical craftsmanship. Recognized for her distinctive concoctions that never stray from the primal rhythm, Sijya has quickly stormed the alternative music circles of New Delhi as a rising talent. Her live performances are an exhibition of captivating auras and immersive experiences.

Delving into a universe of melodic abstractions, Sijya mirrors her cognitive dialogue, skillfully transposed on auditory and visual platforms alike. Herein, she creates a sonorous elixir of art pop, ambient noise, and downtempo rhythms adorned with emotionally-charged vocals. This perfect amalgamation is palpable in her premier single ‘Have To Make My Bed’, as part of boxout.fm’s collection ‘SUCHI SELECTS’, and her debut EP ‘Young Hate’.

With the backing of Accidental Records, known for fostering independent musical thinkers, ‘Young Hate’ and its visual counterparts showcased Sijya‘s impressive range and synchronization as an auditory and visual artist. This unique offering was championed by celebrated artists like Four Tet, Machinewoman, and others on esteemed platforms such as BBC 6Music, Crack Magazine, and NOWNESS. Sijya‘s musical journey peaked with the release of a companion EP, ‘Young Love’.

Alongside her musical output, Sijya‘s live performances have garnered acclaim. From sharing the stage with The Cinematic Orchestra during their Indian tour, to enchanting audiences in prestigious art gatherings such as Echoes of Earth and India Art Fair, Sijya’s live performances have echoed across the globe. The artist has also showcased her talent in revered UK spaces like Tate Modern, Café OTO, and at the Dialled-In Festival. Sijya even helmed workshops for Saffron UK, debuted at India’s prime music festival Magnetic Fields, and churned out a remix for Nabihah Iqbal under the famed label Ninja Tune.
