Echoes of nostalgia resonate as Slowdive graces the shoegaze scene once more with a brand-new album, ending a hiatus of six years. Ever the perfectionists, it comes as no surprise that they invested ample time, ensuring the record resonates with the band’s iconic sound. This journey commenced when the frontman, Neil Halstead, initiated the process with his early demos in 2020. However, the world’s unfolding chaos momentarily hindered their creative momentum.
After overcoming these challenges, Slowdive reunited, dedicating two years to refine and evolve Halstead’s groundwork. This culminated in the mesmerizing album we have today, crafted further by the adept touch of Shawn Everett on the mixing table. The lead track, ‘kisses’, offers listeners a comforting embrace of the dream-pop they have come to adore from Slowdive. Yet, it also suggests an evolution – a more introspective and subdued auditory experience compared to the memorable sonic waves of their 2017 self-titled masterpiece.
