Vladislav Delay’s iconic masterpiece, ‘Multila’, has made a triumphant return with a remastered 20th anniversary edition, much to the delight of dub and electronic music enthusiasts. This vinyl release not only serves as a reminder of Sasu Ripatti’s groundbreaking work but also serves as an introduction to his early artistic style.
Originally released in 2000, ‘Multila’ was Vladislav Delay’s third album and offered a unique and sensual interpretation of dub techno. Influenced by the Finnish climate and landscape, as well as the works of Basic Channel, SND, and deep house pioneers of the late ’80s and ’90s, this album boasted a captivating and immersive sound. Every aspect of production, from the hardware to the tape and D&M’s revered all-analogue mastering facilities, was meticulously attended to, resulting in a truly analog experience. Thanks to Rashad Becker’s remaster, this reissue finally presents the album as it was meant to be heard.
The first disc takes listeners on a journey through the submerged crackle of ‘Ranta’, the soothing tones of ‘Raamat’, and the mesmerizing 22-minute masterpiece that is ‘Huone’. On the second disc, we are treated to the waterlogged beauty of ‘Karrha’ and the captivating 16-minute sonic exploration of ‘Pietola’. These tracks showcase Vladislav Delay’s mastery in blending elements of the GRM, King Tubby, and Huerco S, creating a truly unique and peerless sound.
‘Multila’ is a classic album that has stood the test of time. Its remastered 20th anniversary edition reintroduces listeners to the pioneering work of Vladislav Delay, while also serving as a gateway to his early artistic endeavours. With its blend of dub techno and ambient influences, this album is a must-have for any music lover’s collection.
