In an exciting move, the Pale Saints have unveiled their plans to release an expanded reissue of the 1992 iconic album ‘In Ribbons’. The reissue, rich with previously unheard demos and two special reworks by The Tintwistle Band, was initially slated for release last year. However, due to unforeseen Covid-related delays and manufacturing issues, it’s now scheduled for a grand 30th-anniversary release on 6th October. This deluxe edition, which received acclaim from Pitchfork as one of The Best Shoegaze Albums of All Time, will be available in a double LP, standard black LP, CD, and digital formats.

The celebrated album has long showcased Pale Saint’s masterful dynamic command, as highlighted by Brooklyn Vegan: their capacity to seamlessly layer sounds, deconstruct and reassemble them in a uniquely satisfying manner, remains unparalleled. This reissue shines a spotlight on this artistry.

In the build-up to this monumental release, the band has generously shared an exclusive, previously unreleased demo of ‘Kinky Love’ which fans can listen.

A treasure for avid collectors, the first disc of this reissue features the original UK version of the album. The second, however, offers a wealth of bonuses: unheard demos including their initial take on Slapp Happy’s ‘Blue Flower’ and Ian Masters’ rare recording of the cherished Nancy Sinatra cover, ‘Kinky Love’. In addition to these, the bonus disc is graced with two exclusive brass band renditions by The Tintwistle Band, initially available only with the original UK LP pressing.

Each edition, whether it’s the limited double LP, the standard black vinyl, or the double CD, is a testament to the band’s legacy, with meticulous design details like the exquisite gatefold sleeve. The double LP version, in particular, has been pressed on unique unpigmented vinyl by The Vinyl Factory in West London, ensuring a collector’s delight.

The story of ‘In Ribbons’ and its production, especially with Hugh Jones at the helm, is an intricate one, filled with both passion and occasional studio tensions. Jones, renowned for his work with the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen and Modern English, impeccably captured the essence of Pale Saints in this album.

The narrative of Pale Saints took a turn post ‘In Ribbons’, with Ian Masters departing, citing whimsically, “I had to leave the band as my arms had become too long.” The band’s journey continued with the addition of former Heart Throbs bassist Colleen Browne and another album release under 4AD. Ian Masters, meanwhile, embarked on a fresh venture with Chris Trout of A.C. Temple, resulting in the duo Spoonfed Hybrid. Fans can also anticipate the re-release of their self-titled album from 4AD’s Guernica sub-label.
