Experience the Evolution of SOYUZ: Introducing “II” (2019 Reissue)

Get ready to embark on a sonic journey with SOYUZ , as we delve into the captivating world of their sophomore album, “II.” Previously available only in digital format, this long-awaited reissue captures a pivotal moment in the band’s evolution, offering a mesmerizing blend of avant-psychedelic-pop influences.

Produced during a period of transition for band leader Alex Chumak, “II” reflects the bittersweet emotions of moving from Minsk to Kyiv while grappling with feelings of homesickness. Recorded at Studio 42 with fellow band members Mikita Arlou and Stanislav Murashko, the album serves as a snapshot of SOYUZ’s burgeoning sound, with echoes of diverse musical influences woven throughout.

From the Brazilian-inspired tribute to maestro Verocai to the ethereal nods to Milton Nascimento and Lo Borges in tracks like ‘Mirouze’ and ‘Nascimento,’ “II” is a celebration of global musical heritage. With touches of MPB, Ethio-Jazz, and Italian library soundtracks, the album showcases SOYUZ’s eclectic palette and their ability to seamlessly blend genres.

Tracks like ‘Lyric’ and ‘Motive I’ display the band’s cinematic, soul-laden jazz sound, while ‘Business Partners’ ventures into Krauty, kosmische, new wave territory with Inturist. Meanwhile, Anatolian influences shine through in the mesmerizing interlude ‘Corrida,’ and psychedelic funk vibes permeate ‘Tezeta’ and ‘ES-2 Jazz.’

For this special reissue, the entire album was meticulously mixed by Ryan Power and remastered by Joker, ensuring that “II” shines with the clarity and depth it deserves. As we eagerly anticipate more from SOYUZ, we invite you to immerse yourself in the timeless sounds of “II,” a testament to the band’s creative vision and enduring legacy.
